Since December 2017, the US company PerkinElmer, Inc. holds the majority of the EUROIMMUN shares. PerkinElmer is an international leader in medical and biotechnology. Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, the company employs 1,100 people worldwide and has extensive diagnostic, medical research, and environmental and food analytics expertise with innovative detection, imaging, and computing systems. PerkinElmer, Inc. is a member of the S & P 500 Index.

EUROIMMUN has extensive expertise in the areas of immunology, cell biology, histology, biochemistry and molecular biology and produces reagents for laboratory diagnostics of autoimmune and infectious diseases, allergies and gene analysis.

The focus is on test systems for the detection of antibodies, but also of antigens and genetic markers in patient samples. They are based on immunohistochemical and biochemical methods such as indirect immunofluorescence, microtiter ELISA and various blotting techniques (Westernblot, EUROASSAY, EUROLINE, EUROLINE-WB) as well as on techniques of molecular biology (microarray). The company relies on state-of-the-art technology, some of which is patented worldwide, and microanalysis techniques, and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of medical laboratory diagnostics.

The invention of BIOCHIPs (1983) is one of the company's first major pioneering achievements: paper-thin glass films are coated with cells or tissue sections and then automatically divided into millimeter-size fragments using self-developed BIOCHIP fragmentation and placement machines and glued onto microscope slides. BIOCHIP technology allows extreme miniaturization and standardization of immuno-biochemical analyzes. With BIOCHIP Mosaics™ from more than 30 different organ sections, cell substrates or defined antigens (EUROPLUS), extensive antibody profiles can be recorded with minimal incubation effort.

In addition, the company has a diverse range of technologies that has triggered and supported fundamental new developments in medical laboratory diagnostics, including the development of devices and software for the fully automated processing / evaluation of the EUROIMMUN test range, computer-assisted immunofluorescence microscopy (CAIFM ) as well as software for laboratory data management (EUROLabOffice).

Another example of the company's innovative strength is the synthesis of recombinant proteins and customized designer antigens in their own molecular biological-biochemical laboratories. These, like the native antigens, are purified using state-of-the-art techniques and are used as substrates in the ELISA, line blots (EUROASSAY, EUROLINE) and EUROPLUS systems. Other recombinant proteins are expressed in stably transfected cell lines used as a rapidly generated, specific substrate for immunofluorescence assays (Recombinant Cell IIFT, RC-IIFT). In the field of molecular diagnostics, EUROIMMUN develops multiparametric DNA microarrays for the identification of disease-associated gene polymorphisms, tumors or pathogens.

Together with the "Institute for Experimental Immunology", EUROIMMUN has founded its own research facility, which, in collaboration with international institutes and clinics, is researching the identification of new, disease-relevant biomarkers, often in the context of diploma and doctoral theses. Through individual training in the EUROIMMUN Academy, more than 1,000 customers and sales representatives from 50 nations are informed annually about the latest research findings and developments and incorporated into the application of the products. The "Institute for Quality Assurance", another institution of EUROIMMUN AG, organizes objective round robin tests and advises on questions of quality management.

The technical competence of the company also extends to the affiliated reference laboratory. The diagnostic spectrum of the laboratory includes autoimmune diagnostics, infection serology, serological allergy diagnostics and molecular genetics. Every day, hundreds of patient samples from different countries reach the reference laboratory, which are sent in to clarify unclear or difficult findings constellations. EUROIMMUN customers can have their results secured here free of charge as a special service.
